Movement (for the Balvenie)

Movement

A lightly intoxicating, enveloping sensory experience, with music weaving and swirling through the air. I connected and transformed the volumes of each chapter’s wine bottle shapes in different directions, forming several curved, rotating forms. These were arranged into a collective mass that seems to traverse, surround, and gather from all directions. The points of contact between them and their relationship with the environment are treated with a delicate, floating quality.

I chose wood as the material—not only because wood plays a crucial role in the winemaking process by sealing and transforming flavors, but also because its grain embodies the passage of time in a tangible form. On the surfaces facing two directions, I carved horizontal lines. These lines subtly hint at musical notation while reinforcing the impression of flowing movement.

In the end, I completed a large composition over two meters tall, as well as a smaller piece designed to hold a single bottle from 1961.
