Artist Cheng Tsung FENG’s practice often explores traditional handicraft cultures, drawing inspiration from fading artisanal techniques and everyday life. For this project, he turned to the traditional bamboo chair, a familiar object in Taiwanese neighborhoods, and reimagined the weaving technique of its seat to create a large-scale spherical installation in Fugang, Taoyuan. The work evokes the relaxed, communal atmosphere of the past, when neighbors would pull out bamboo chairs and gather together for conversation in the streets, under the shade of trees or in quiet alleyways.
In this installation, FENG magnifies and extends the weaving pattern of the bamboo chair seat. Thin bamboo strips are arranged in parallel layers, forming a continuous woven surface that winds through a colossal hexagonal metal sphere. Bamboo, a warm and tactile material, intertwines with the rational, structural logic of metal, producing forms reminiscent of the Chinese character for “person” (人). The open lattice structure allows the space to remain permeable from all sides, enabling visitors to move freely, gather, and interact. Overlapping bamboo panels create intricate patterns of light and shadow, providing cool, dappled shade beneath the sphere.
Inside the installation, a variety of handcrafted bamboo stools are placed at different heights and groupings, some clustered in twos or threes around the central planting of local Taoyuan vegetation. This spatial arrangement encourages visitors to pause, rest, and engage with the environment. The experience recalls the rhythms of traditional village life, where people would sit in informal arrangements—under a tree, at the doorway, along narrow lanes—sharing stories, laughter, and simple moments of leisure.
Through this work, FENG transforms a humble, utilitarian object into a monumental architectural experience, merging craft, memory, and communal interaction. The bamboo sphere becomes a space for reflection, social engagement, and tactile exploration, bridging the past and the present while celebrating the poetic qualities embedded in everyday life.

藝術家范承宗的創作多與傳統手工藝文化相關。他從傳統竹椅汲取靈感，轉換竹椅的椅面編織技術，在桃園富岡搭建了一座大型球體裝置，喚起過往記憶中，街坊鄰居拉著竹椅坐下談天的閒適情懷。
在這件作品中，他將竹椅椅面的編織技術放大、延展，以劈薄的竹片平行排列成面狀編織，穿梭於六角形結構搭起的巨大金屬球體造型；竹材作為感性的媒介，與作為理性結構的金屬相互交織，形成類似「人」字的造型。透空的結構使空間能夠四面開放，人們可以自由地穿梭、聚集；交疊在球體上的面狀竹材，在球體下創造出陰涼的光影。內部擺設多張傳統手工竹椅凳，高低錯落，或二或三地群聚，圍繞中央栽種的桃園在地植栽，邀請人們進入其中稍作歇息，如同過往聚落裡人們在大樹下、家門前、巷弄內閒坐閒聊的日常風景。
